SSWC09 and Hiking Great Northern

Mon Sep 28, 08:44 AM

Since I got laid off at work, I have had a bit of time to play. Last week several of us got in a truck a drove to Moab, Utah for a few days of riding before heading to the Single Speed World Championship bike race. We rode the Moab classics Porcupine Rim and Slick Rock Trail before heading to Durango to hang out with Andy Schultz and Ben Kneller.

The SSWC 09 is a serious race for some, but mostly just a bizarre and awesome bike event! Almost all racers showed up in costume, there were people handing out beer, bacon, and twinkies at the top of each climb, and the winner gets a tattoo! There were over 1200 racers that showed up and took over Durango.

I have also been able to do some hiking. Addy and I got out on a beautiful late fall hike of Great Northern. This is a really pretty hike that has views of the Mission Mountains, the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and Glacier National Park. It is a grunt as we climbed over 4500 vertical feet. My legs are feeling it today!
